35-40% of adults feel from time to time ringing in your ears, 8% are bothered by it, 0.5% are due to their ear noise greatly impaired and in constant medical care. Causes of tinnitus can be vascular and muscular disorders, trauma, infectious and drug-toxic causes.

The physical therapy is based on an accurate diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system, specific manual therapy, lymphatic drainage if needed, relaxation and relief of the head joints.

The central auditory system is similar to a filter system. It is able to keep acoustic signals from the inner ear away from the subcortical centers of the brain. This filter system is the physiological correlate of the fact that only about 30% of the surrounding noises to be consciously perceived.

With tinnitus this filter system is disturbed. Tinnitus is perceived and a disease, if this inhibitory systems are damaged and no longer function effectively.

The therapeutic approach that resulted from these ideas is the desensitization of the central process to the tinnitus: it tries to restore the disturbed filter function of the auditory system and decouple the acoustic perception of tinnitus. Through this training the tinnitus is less annoying and in many cases it is possible that tinnitus is no longer perceived.
