Many people have pain in the head and neck area. In some cases the cause is a functional disturbance of the temporomandibular joint.

The jaw joint is the only one of its kind in the body. The temporomandibular joint is formed by the joining of the skull and jaw. Problems with this joint may be the basis for complaints that effect the head, neck, jaw and arm. The same symptoms may also be caused by problems with the pelvis. The Physical Therapist can diagnose your particular problem to determine if it is being caused by the jaw joint or the pelvis and treat it.

The treatment of this jaw disorder and its accompanying symptoms may also require manual therapy, application of heat lamps, cold packs and ultrasound. In addition you will be trained in exercises you can do at home to complement this therapy.
