Manual therapy is used in medicine for the treatment of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system of the joints, muscles and nerves.

It is used in physical therapy for mobilization or traction of joints. This has an effect on muscles, connective tissue and neural structures as well as stimulation of joint, tendon and muscles receptors by inhabitation or facilitation and strengthening of weak muscles.

There are mainly treated reversible joint dysfunctions with and without pain (blocks, hypermobilities or hypomobilities after a shrinking process of the joint capsula due to a longer immobilization), blocks of the spine, dysfunctions due to muscle- and tendon shortening, muscular insufficiency, pain for example traction on joints with arthritis or on spine by a herniated disc problem) and muscle-weakness due to a nerval dysfunction (compression of peripheral nerves).

The arm is to restore the physiological joint and muscle functions as well as to achieve pain relief in arthrogenic, muscular and neural disorders. The treatment is based on a detailed evaluation of patient and a especially for this patient created treatment plan with specific joint and muscle exercises.

For this therapy, the therapist needs specific 2 year certified training.
